Sweltering temperatures persisted across BC Monday and in the process, several temperature records were toppled across the province.
According to data from Environment Canada, 27 areas stretching from Vancouver Island to the BC Interior set new daily maximum temperature record on Monday July 8th, 2024.
Lytton was the hottest spot in the province yesterday with as temperatures hit 42.5°C. The previous high seen on July 8th was 39.4°C, which was set in 1952.
The current heat wave is expected to last through Tuesday evening before things cool down slightly Wednesday.
“A strong ridge of high pressure over the region has ushered in very high temperatures. Daytime highs will be in the low to mid 30’s inland and in the upper twenties along the coast,” says Environment Canada.
Daytime high temperatures are expected to moderate to the mid to high 20’s starting Wednesday.
If you do start feeling unwell, seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, or an air-conditioned spot like a public building.
