Season 1 of the hit TV show was filmed in Calgary and the economic impact was huge for the province of Alberta. Sources say the budget was between US$10 million and US$15 million per episode for season 1.
Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, the show is based on the 2013 video game developed by Naughty Dog. The show is set twenty years into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection, which causes its hosts to transform into zombie-like creatures and collapses society. The TV show follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the immune teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States.
Season 2 of the hit TV show is expected to closely follow the original video game story.
