Three men have been charged in connection to the murder of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
On May 3rd, IHIT investigators, with the assistance of members from the BC and Alberta RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service, arrested three men for the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
22-year-old Karan Brar, 22-year-old Kamalpreet Singh, and 28-year-old Karanpreet Singh have been charged with first degree murder. The three men are also each facing a charge of conspiracy to commit murder in relation to Nijjar’s homicide.
The Sikh leader was shot and killed outside Surrey’s Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara back on June 18, 2023.
On June 18th at 8:27pm, 45-year old Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara. Police found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.
Back in September, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that “credible intelligence” links the Indian government to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
“Over the past number of weeks, Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” said Trudeau at the time.

“Today’s charges are the result of 10 months of dedication from the IHIT investigators and it’s many partners across Canada including both RCMP and municipal police services,” says Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, Officer in Charge of IHIT.
“The investigation does not end here. We are aware that there are others out there that played a role in this homicide and we remain dedicated to identifying and arresting each one of them.”
Investigators also thanked the Nijjar family, the citizens of Surrey and the members of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Executive for their patience during the investigation.
“I appreciate that the community still has questions, many of which we will not be able to answer at this time, as this investigation now proceeds through the courts system. Again, I thank you for your patience and understanding,” added Mooker.
