The Twilight Drive-In theatre, the last of its kind in Metro Vancouver, is now open for its final season.
Aldergrove’s Twilight Drive-In theatre opened up in 2005 and was a place where people could watch their favourite movies under the stars in the comfort of their own vehicles.
It was announced last year that this would be their last year due to rising property taxes.
“It is with heavy heart that we announce today that next season will be the last for the drive-in. Due to a 260% increase in property taxes over the last 3 years, and with 72% this year alone, our landlord has informed us that they will not be renewing our lease,” reads a post on their Facebook page.
“We hope that you will spread the word about the only drive-in movie theatre, so that those who have never experienced a drive-in, may do so before the opportunity is gone forever.”

The theatre owners made a “last ditch effort” to save the drive-in with a lease extension, but were told that there would still be a rent increase.
“Over our offseason, we made a last ditch effort to save the drive-in and see if our landlord would give us a lease extension. However, they were still wanting a 2.4x rent increase. That, coupled with the exponential increase in property taxes over the last 5 years, has made operating the drive-in no longer viable,” said Twilight Drive-In on Facebook.
The movie audio is broadcasted via FM radio. You can watch the movie from the front or back of your vehicle as long as it’s not blocking people behind you. You also have the choice to sit on a lawn chair outside your vehicle.
The drive-in theatre has concession stand that offers treats such as popcorn, poutine, and burgers.
