Two people were killed in a head-on collision that shut down a portion of Highway 1 in West Vancouver late Wednesday evening.
Around 11:40pm, a vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes near Westport Road “caused a head-on collision,” resulting in the “tragic death of two people”.
West Vancouver Police added the remaining passengers were sent to hospital.

The accident blocked drivers from accessing the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal, leading to delays ahead of the busy Canada Day long weekend.

One westbound lane reopened around 9am, but drivers can still expect to see delays.
One lane open on Trans Canada Highway Westbound at Westport as the final stages of cleanup conclude. Second lane will open up shortly.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is currently investigating the fatal accident.
