A man is in custody after pointing what appeared to be a gun at two women in downtown Vancouver yesterday afternoon.
The incident occurred Thursday afternoon around 2:30pm near Powell Street and Heatley Avenue in the Downtown Eastside. Two women were exiting a ride-share vehicle when a stranger “pointed what appeared to be a gun at one of their head” and “made a comment about her being a Vancouver Police Officer”.
Neither woman is a police officer. Both women managed to get away from the suspect and called 911.
After approaching the two women, the suspect assaulted and pointed the gun at a man who was sitting at a nearby bus stop.
“As a precaution, police deployed additional armed officers at all VPD buildings while officers searched for the suspect,” said Cst. Tania Visintin.
Police arrested the suspect near Hastings and Gore streets at 3:45pm.
