Surrey RCMP responded to an “unfolding event” at a single family residence in the area of 88 Avenue early at around 1:30pm this afternoon.

“There is a heavy police presence in that neighbourhood at this time and there is no risk to public safety,” said Sgt. Tammy Lobb in a statement at the time.

In an update Monday evening police said, a man “associated to the residence” was armed and barricaded inside the home.

“Several officers from Surrey Detachment responded to the area and with assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team, the man was safely taken into police custody at 5:42 p.m,” said Sgt. Tammy Lobb.

88 Avenue between 164 Street and 160 Street was closed for several hours and all roads have re-opened now.
