A man visiting from the U.S. is in critical condition after being struck by a cyclist in Vancouver.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says a couple visiting from the United States was crossing West Cordova at Richards Street around 5:30pm yesterday when the incident occurred.

“They reportedly had the right of way when a cyclist heading east on Cordova Street struck both of them,” says the VPD.

The 72-year-old male pedestrian lost consciousness and was transported to Vancouver General Hospital for emergency surgery. He remains in stable condition.

His wife suffered minor injuries and was also transported to hospital.

“The cyclist was not hurt and remained on scene.”

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
