A deep freeze is set to converge on Metro Vancouver this week and it’ll last through the weekend.

Different areas across Metro Vancouver saw snow and heavy rain yesterday and while it’s rather calm today, it won’t stay like this for long.

Wednesday calls for cloudy conditions with sunny breaks as the day moves along. While overnight temperatures will hit the freezing point, the real plunge takes place on Thursday.

A few flurries are in the forecast for Metro Vancouver with a daytime high of -2°C. In the evening, temperatures will plunge to a frigid -11°C.

Daytime temperatures on Friday will hover close to -5°C, but feel more like -9°C with the wind chill. Friday night temperatures will hit a double digit low of -10°C.

Below-freezing temperatures are expected for much of the weekend before more snow is expected on Monday.

The cold air coming in from the arctic is bringing in winter temperatures the region hasn’t seen yet this winter.

“After the mild December where the coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere stalled over Siberia, the tables have turned. Now, the coldest temperatures relative to normal on the entire globe will be across British Columbia and the western Prairies,” says The Weather Network.
