Do you know someone that’s seeking a firefighting career?
If so, Vancouver Firefighter Charities (VFC) and Parq Casino are here to help make their dreams come true. Applicants are currently open for their second annual VFC/Parq Casino Firefighter Bursary to support people pursuing a career in firefighting.
Launched last year, Parq provides the financial support for VFC to award a deserving applicant who exemplifies the high standards and commitment required to be a firefighter with the funds necessary to complete their journey.
Last year’s successful applicant, Juliette Busch, used the funds provided from the inaugural bursary to help cover the costs of obtaining her Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement as well as additional certifications and specialized training programs.
“Receiving this bursary presented me with numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth and allowed me to focus more fully on my studies and pursue the additional training required to achieve my goal of becoming a firefighter,” says Bush. “The financial support helped me broaden my skill set, facilitate my continued education and empowered me to pursue my passion for firefighting with confidence and dedication.”

With the financial support, Bush was free to devote more time to causes of personal importance, such as joining the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Camp Committee as a burn survivor representative. She also supports the work that the annual Burn Camp does to support burn survivors across BC.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the way that Parq Casino has stepped up and shown its commitment by providing the funds to give deserving and aspiring firefighters the extra help they need to achieve their goals and serve our local communities,” says VFC Executive Director Eric Himmelman.
The deadline to apply is April 30 and the application can be found here.
