The victim of a targeted shooting near Metrotown mall in Burnaby has been identified in an effort to advance the investigation.

Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to reports of shots fired near McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street just after 6:30pm on Wednesday, November 5th.

Responding officers located a male victim, and despite life-saving efforts, the man did not survive.

Not long after, officers located a vehicle on fire at Kingsway and Inman Avenue, which is just a short drive away from where the shooting occurred.

“The investigation is in its early stages; however, investigators have confirmed the burnt vehicle is the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting,” said IHIT in a release.

In an effort to advance the investigation, IHIT has identified the victim as 19-year-old Connor Sheriff. Investigators add that “Mr. Sheriff was known to police and is believed to have connections to the drug trade”.
