Homicide investigators have identified the victim who was shot and killed at the Northgate Village shopping plaza in Burnaby Saturday afternoon.
29-year old Gagandeep Sandhu of Abbotsford was found deceased inside a parked vehicle in an underground parkade just after 5pm.
Burnaby RCMP officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of North Road and Cameron Street just after 5pm. About 15 minutes later, police found a Honda Pilot engulfed in flames in the area of Bainbridge Avenue and Greenwood Street.

IHIT is leading the investigation and is working closely with the Burnaby RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).
Investigators have not provided any details about a possible motive at this time, but say initial evidence “suggests this was a targeted shooting”.
“IHIT is working closely with the RCMP’s forensic experts to process both scenes and to determine if they are related,” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT.
“We’re asking any witnesses or anyone with dash-camera video who was in either area, to please come forward.”
