Kalwinder (Kal) Dosanjh, a 26-year member of the Vancouver Police Department and founder of the KidsPlay Foundation, has been arrested following an investigation that started over two years ago.
He faces multiple fraud and theft charges, with victims allegedly losing more than $3 million.
VPD Chief Steve Rai said Kalwinder Singh Dosanjh was arrested and taken into custody on Thursday, September 3, following a “lengthy and thorough investigation” that lasted more than two years.
Crown Counsel approved four counts of fraud over $5,000, four counts of theft over $5,000, and one count of breach of trust.
Rai said 19 victims have been identified in the investigation to date. The conduct at the centre of these allegations occurred between 2017 and 2025.
“In December of 2023, the VPD received information from multiple victims alleging criminal activity involving Mr. Dosanjh,” said VPD Chief Steve Rai.
“Following an assessment of that information, I initiated an investigation into the actions of Mr. Dosanjh, and a dedicated VPD investigative team was established.”
Today, as we announce an arrest in this investigation, I am extending my sincere gratitude to our partners at the Crown Counsel Office for their invaluable work and collaboration throughout this investigation.

Effective immediately, Dosanjh has been suspended from the force.
“Given the scope and gravity of these allegations, I have taken the strongest precautionary measure available to me and have recommended to the Vancouver Police Board that Mr. Dosanjh be suspended without pay.”
Rai added that if the Police Board approves his recommendation, Dosanjh’s suspension will remain in place throughout the criminal proceedings and until any disciplinary process under the Police Act is complete.
