A weather warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver as strong winds and heavy rain approach the region.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Sunday afternoon and says “strong winds that may cause damage and power outages are expected”.
“This is the first wind storm of this autumn with full foliage,” reads the special weather statement.
“The heavy tree branches are more prone to break in strong winds and it may lead to more damage and power outage than subsequent wind storms of similar wind speeds later in the season.”

Strong southeast winds could reach 30 to 50 km/hr early Monday morning and continue though Tuesday. For areas near the water, strong southeast winds between 50 and 70 km.h are expected from Monday morning to Monday evening.
The Weather Network warns heavy rain will also slam the region. Metro Vancouver will likely see 50 to 100 mm of rain across the over the next seven days, with the potential for 200 mm of precipitation falling at higher elevations.
As of Sunday night, the forecast states that 30 to 40 mm of rain will fall Monday and another 25 to 35 mm of precipitation is expected Tuesday.
