Crews are currently battling an out-of-control wildfire that broke out in Belcarra Regional Park Wednesday afternoon.
The Village of Anmore said in an advisory that crews are responding to a ground fire under the power lines in the area behind Crystal Creek.
“Residents are asked to avoid the area and give emergency crews plenty of space to work,” adds the advisory.
The wildfire nearly doubled in size over three hours, growing from an estimated 0.8 hectares shortly after 4:30pm to 1.5 hectares by 7:30pm, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The BC Wildfire Service says the wildfire is “spreading or it is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter, or control line”.
“Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department, Port Moody Fire Rescue, Metro Vancouver Emergency Management staff, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks staff, Metro Vancouver Watershed Protection firefighting crews, and BC Wildfire Service have responded,” posted Metro Vancouver on social media.

In its provincial situation report shared Thursday, the BC Wildfire Service said the “potential for fire activity is expected to increase” because of hot and dry conditions.
