Police have arrested a woman after she entered a New Westminster school armed with a knife Wednesday morning.
At around 8am this morning, police received a 911 call from staff at a post secondary school on 6th Street in New Westminster. The caller told police that a woman, who was not a student at the school, was armed with a knife.
The caller added “students and staff feared for their safety”.
Security was able to isolate the woman inside the school before police arrived. When officers arrived, they instructed staff and students to leave the building.
“Patrol officers engaged in de-escalation techniques with the armed woman, with the aim of having her safely taken into police custody,” said police in a statement.Police have arrested a woman after she entered a New Westminster school armed with a knife Wednesday morning.

“The New Westminster Police Department would like to acknowledge the swift response by school administration who called 9-1-1 without delay,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “Their cooperation played a key role in there being no injuries to students, the suspect, or police.”
Traffic was blocked in both directions on 6th Street between Columbia and Royal for several hours.
